Turbo Widget: A Dynamic Duo Redefining Community Involved Public Art
Turbo Widget is a creative powerhouse composed of Benjamin and Kimberly Hanvy, a husband-and-wife duo dedicated to spreading joy through bold color and inspiring others through music and community art projects. Their collaborative efforts span both visual art (murals & mosaics) and music (soul-rock), leaving a lasting impact on a city’s cultural fabric.
As visual artists, Benjamin and Kimberly have collaborated on numerous public and private art installations. Their works are located in diverse locations throughout St. Louis, including a dynamic 20-foot mural on a city recycling container and a local recording studio mural are examples of their commitment to urban beautification.
In 2024, Turbo Widget was awarded one of 28 ARPA for the Arts “St. Louis Mural Project” Grants. (https://stlouisarts.org/stlmp-benjamin-hanvy/) This prestigious recognition enabled them to create a striking 250-foot mural sign welcoming visitors to St. Louis. Their vibrant artwork serves as a visual gateway to the city, showcasing its quirky character and welcoming spirit. A local journalist stopped and wrote a story about the mural, its meaning and the positive community impact. (https://www.stlmag.com/news/new-mural-beckons-motorists-driving-into-st-louis-city/ )
Their unique approach to music garnered recognition from St. Louis’ Riverfront Times in 2019, highlighting their innovative “song-a-month” release strategy. (https://www.riverfronttimes.com/music/turbo-widget-eschews-traditional-album-release-for-a-song-per-month-approach-29680239)
Community-driven and committed to excellence, Turbo Widget prioritizes safety, quality, and a positive community impact in all their endeavors. Their artistic vision is to create uplifting and inspiring works that elevate the public perception of their own neighborhoods and cities, celebrating it as a vibrant and inviting place to call home.
